MY DO FOR ME LIST

Dear Sharon,
Yeah I am writing this one to you. Gurl, all month long you have been writing about nurturing, but seriously what have you done to nurture yourself this month. Not enough. So slow down and let’s take some time to smell the roses. Here are a list of things you love doing and have not done for a while. So even though we are moving to a new spiritual practice in October, let’s work on being open to being more nurturing of your own self so you can continue to be nurturing to others.

Song of the Week

This song by N Sync reminds me how God's love nurtures me and what it would be like if I did not know that the Divine is there to comfort me in every moment of my life.

NURTURING ROMANCE

This month we have been looking at various ways of nurturing ourselves and others.  Recently, I began thinking about the importance of nurturing my relationship with my wife. It is so easy for life to take over and displace the deeper purpose of the relationships. There is always something to do around the house. There is always something that needs to be managed, bills to pay, chores to be done, etc. All of that is important. At the same time, it is important that we nurture the loving nature of the relationship we have with our spouse to keep it alive and growing. How do we keep the romance alive?
Romance is more than just dinner by candle light, soft music and flowers. It is about the attention and feeling we create in the relationship and bring to each other. It is about what we do to affirm our love and gratitude for the person who has come to share our life with us. Romance is about the intentional time we take away from all the things we have to do in life, to just spend quality time with the one we love. It is a time where we get to focus on each other without all the interruptions of daily life, the computer beeping, the phone ringing, etc

NURTURING ME

I would like to be able to come to you and say that I treat myself amazingly well.  However, I try to be more honest with you then I am with anyone else, including myself. I am awesome at saying I am going to do something, but I break promises with myself all the time. Like tonight I said I was going to take some time to be a shlump and I did not. I did not walk as much as I should have today. I ate fairly healthy today which is a good thing, but probably mostly because I have been intentional about keeping the junk food out of the house. I did get enough sleep and I have paid myself compliments, but I am not taking as good care of my body as I need to. I am working on treating myself as well as I treat others.  As Iyanla Vanzant reminded me recently, at present I am allowing others to be thieves in my life and they do not even know that I am allowing them to do that. Well maybe they will if they read this. LOL
I am trying to think of myself as a little girl and remembering to nurture myself the way I would nurture my child. So there are some things I am really good at. I am good at telling myself that I love myself and how amazing I am. I am good at remembering that I am never alone and I am surrounded by your love, your strength and the supporters you have bought into my life to bring me through the times when I feel like I am struggling.

SHED A FEW TEARS

The other day I became a part of a conversation about whether or not it was healthy to shed a few tears. What was interesting about this conversation was not that most of the people who responded said that it was healthy, but that the idea that shedding a few tears is not healthy.
For centuries, we have been socializing males to think it is not healthy to openly express their feelings and increasingly I am seeing women and girls of all ages question whether it is okay to express their feelings. It is interesting because there is actually a medical diagnosis called alexithymia. It is the inability to express or talk about our feelings. When we disconnect our heart from our head, then we not only lose the ability to express our feelings, we lose the ability to nurture ourselves or others.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

What you internalize is what nurtures you. So be mindful of what you take into your mind, body, and soul.

CUDDLE TIME

Thank you for waking me up this morning. My friends were kind of surprised to see me up and moving so early this morning. I try to get up by 8 am every morning so I have a routine and stick to it, but sometimes I give myself a sleep in morning as a way of nurturing my body, mind, and soul. I take this as quiet time to just rest, cuddle with my wife, and allow you to speak to me in my dreams.
There is something about cuddling that is so nurturing for me. When I was younger I used to cuddle with my stuffed animals or with my dog Puggy. As I grew up I found that I enjoyed cuddling with my partner of the time. There is nothing like cuddling and being held.

SONG OF THE WEEK

When I was a little girl, there was nothing more nurturing then when my mother would sing me a lullaby at night. I hope this song will leave you feeling nurtured as you listen to it. https://youtu.be/HeDMAM6l2i8

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

Take time each day to water your garden, weed it, fertilize it, and admire the beauty that lies withing you and radiates from you.
