Song of the Week

So often we do not realize how our presence affects others or how long we have been waiting for our soulmate to come into our lives. This is why I wanted to share this weeks song of the week with you http://inspiritual.biz/inspiritual-song-of-the-week1/

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

How often do we think about how our thoughts, words, and deeds affect those we have never seen or think about?

It's Sharing Time

Crossing over the bridge this morning I was reminded that it connected me with those I was going to see. What in your life is a cue to find a new way to connect with someone you meet today.?

COHESIVE CONNECTIONS

One of the comments I hear from the judges on Chopped most often is that individually, the components on a dish taste good, but it was not a cohesive dish. The various ingredients did not come together a unified whole. I feel that way a lot. My wife, for example, likes simplistic meals, like a “fried” chicken breast, a baked potato, and a salad. She is thrilled, but for me that is not a cohesive dish because there is nothing that weaves it together.
When I was pastoring, it was important for the service to be cohesive. Everything from the artwork on the front of the bulletin, to the music, the scripture, and the sermon needed to weave together so that everything worked together and wove together in a seamless manner. Doing so required time to plan my way through the process.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

LIKE POTATOES IN A TUB

It’s funny how stories have a way of drifting up into your memory from your childhood when you are meditating and reflecting on a specific word or practice. As you may have figured out by now, the theme for this month is connection and I have been working on being intentional this month about practicing seeing the connections in my life. I hope you have as well.
This morning I found myself thinking about a story my father told me about washing potatoes.  Decades ago, my father served in the Korean War. Amongst many positions in which he served, was that of a translator. He also spent some time working in the kitchen. One of his least favorite tasks was cleaning and peeling potatoes. Often times he would find himself assigned to this task, ordered to do hundreds of potatoes, one at a time. While he became efficient at cleaning potatoes, it was not one he enjoyed doing.

COSMIC COMPUTER CONNECTION

Have you ever been working online and have a problem loading or page? Have you ever been on a call within others on Skype or Zoom and been told your internet connection is unstable? Most of us have experienced some sort of “connection” related problem when it comes to us being able to work (or play) efficiently on our computer.
What if we thought about our connection to the Divine as us being connected to the Cosmic Computer? How would you describe your connection to the Divine? Would you say you are still on dialup or are you hardwired? Do you power down at night or do you stay connected? How much of you is connected to the Cosmic Computer? Is it just your spirit? Mind? Body? Or is every cell of your being connected?

HONORING MY ANCESTERS

I remember when I was pastoring how once a month we would pour libations. When I water the plants, which I should do more often, I think about my parents and many of their relatives who went before them. I also think about my foster parents and my birth parents, who I have no memories of and honor them.
Initially, I thought this was an African spiritual tradition. Then I became aware of how it was also a Native American tradition. Recently, I became aware this is also a part of Shin Buddhism and is known as the Pure Land Tradition. According to Taitetsu Unno this tradition emphasizes awakening to "the Name-that-calls" and recognizing the boundless compassion that sustains and connects all of life. Some of this message is conveyed in the following poem by Mitsu Aida.
