THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND

Thank you for being a friend.
That line always makes
me laugh and smile.
How easy it is to
make someone smile
or lighten their load
by simply saying something nice
or paying them a compliment
When we stop taking people for granted
and tell them what they mean to us,
we let them know they are of value.
Sometimes we all need to know
we are making a difference, and
what people admire in us.
How do you feel when
someone says thank you, or
tells you that you are loved,
or that you make a difference?
How does it feel when you
do the same
Let’s raise the vibrations
in our world
and make this world a
better and happier place

SILLINESS

The message came again
take time
and be silly
because
silliness
is a blessing.
Silly
has its roots in
being blessed.
When I am
silly I am
blessing others.
Silliness
allows me to
help others and
experience the Ultimate
in ways which
transform,
lighten,
and help us
see the humor in the
one we take all too
seriously.
Be silly.
Be sacred.
Be blessed.

SAYING GOODBYE

It was almost 30 years ago
when I bought that black sweater.
Over the years,
it has kept me warm,
gone on dates,
seen me through
good times and bad.
My black sweater stayed
with me longer than
some friends.
Then the day came,
that I had to say goodbye.
I was so worn out and tattered
I could no longer wear it
not even at home.
There was something about saying
goodbye
to this sweater that had seen me through
30 years of life.
So as I prepared to let it go
I took a moment to give thanks
for all the dates it had been on with me
for the days it had kept me warm,
for the tears and the laughter it has shared, and
for so much more then
I could remember
or I could put into words.
As we release the old,
may we remember to honor
all it has seen us through
and give thanks for the ways
we have been served and blessed

NO MORE MINE

Mine.
It was a word I used
to say this is mine;
to belongs to me.
It was mine because
I bought it,
it was given to me.
I earned it,
or it some other way
came into possession.
It was mine.
I liked mine,
because it made me feel
as if I possessed,
I owned,
I had control, and
I had power.
So what if stopped saying mine
if I started seeing everything
as being borrowed,
as a gift from the Ultimate,
as a blessing which was with me
for a time,
for a season
but not mine.
Legally something may be
mine,
however, if everything I have
is from the Divine,
then it is not mine.
It is a blessing,
a reminder all my needs
are met.
Things may come and go,
they may break,
they may be stolen,
they may be regifted
but they are not mine.
They are things in my life
for a reason and
a season,
but they are not mine.
Removing the word mine
from my vocabulary
changes my perspective.
It recognizes my blessings
changes my connections,
and opens my eyes,
to the presence of God
in my life.

WALKING ON DIAMONDS

There have been times
When the road was hard,
sometimes brutal, and
I just wanted to stop,
but I pressed on.
The road seemed hazardous.
The path constructed of
and covered in the
sharpest of rocks.
Then the blessing happened.
I saw this road,
which appeared hard and hazardous
was not what it seemed.
The road was not cloaked in hazards
but in blessings.
It was not paved in the sharpest of rocks
but the brightest of diamonds.
It is then that I hear my Bubby
when you can see the blessings
in the situation, then
you will be okay.
All this time I have been
walking on diamonds.

GENEROSITY

We all give,
but some of us are
Generous.
We share our gifts
with others
in a way that transcends
what is expected.
This sharing of one’s gifts
is an act of generosity.
It is a way of sharing their
blessings with others.
It is a way
of practicing generosity
So what happens when
we say no.
When we say no,
we are blocking their blessings.
we are denying others the
opportunity to practice generosity
Why would we deny others
the opportunity to be generous
to share their blessings.
Do we realize that when we say no
that this is what we are doing.
What if we said yes to the invitation
to gather with friends
even if we want to say no.
What if our saying yes not only
blessed us but allowed others
to practice generosity

WHAT YOU SEE

My Bubby would say,
when you can see the blessing
in any situation,
then you will be okay.
She taught me
what I looked for
I would find.
If I looked for problems
I would find them
if I looked for gifts and blessings
I would find them

The more I look for something
the more of it I will find.
The one little problem
will become a huge field of them.
The smallest of blessings
will lead to a path of growth and evolution.

What I look for in life
is what I will find.
What if you saw each “problem”
as a teacher,
as a gift
which was bringing you closer
to your Higher Power

What if life was filled
with nothing but
opportunities for
growth and evolution.
What if we cannot see them
because we let our ego
blur our vision.
Today let us give thanks
in all circumstances and
work to see the blessings and gifts
in all life brings our way.

THANK YOU!

I have been sitting here today reflecting on the last seven years. It has been a crazy and amazing journey. So many different people have come through our doors. Some have journeyed with us for years, some for a few months, and some just came and left. Each in their own left a mark on me and this ministry. To all of you who have been a part of our journey and evolution, thank you!
I remember when I first started talking to someone about this vision and she said just start it and they will come. What has fascinated me most the last seven years is the messages and emails from people around the world.  I was not expecting that my writing would resonate with people from just about every continent in the world. It has allowed me to build relationships with people from places such as the Czech Republic, Liberia, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, India, Jamaica, Russia, and Ireland. There is something about knowing that there is a language that resonates with people globally. There is a blessing in knowing that people can come together and feel the presence of the Ultimate. It is a different kind of unity then I have been thinking about all month.

RE-OPENING

Seriously, I always think I am far more evolved then I am and then you find a way to humble me and open me up to possibilities beyond my imagination. The most recent was this weekend, when you sent Diana over to talk to me about this Thrive for Women program. Honestly, I was not sure. I accepted her three-day sample for a few reasons. First, it was free and I had choice about what I did or did not do with it. Second, she was not pushy and never made a comment about my weight. Third, because my friend Kelly raves about this program and she doesn’t rave about many products.
I have always been very accepting of what comes my way. I had learned to find ways of staying focused, balanced and positive when my paratransit service were virtually eliminated. I have adjusted and thanked you for the decline in my health. I have always been open to seeing the blessings in all situations. In part because my Bubby had always told me if I could see the blessings in any situation, then I knew I would be okay.

RELEASING THE PRIDE, RECEIVING THE GRACE

I wanted to take a minute to thank you for helping me learn to accept the help of others. I have always been good at giving, but not so great at receiving. I think part of that came from me not feeling worthy. I doubted why anyone would want to give to me or to share with me when they could share with someone of greater value. I even had problems accepting a compliment. I struggled to believe that anybody could think there was anything nice to say about me.
Then I hit bottom. I lost the feeling in my right leg and the ability to drive. Then I lost my paratransit services. With each loss, I had to open myself up to asking for help. I had to ask friends for rides to work, to the grocery store, to the doctor’s office. It was so humbling, and still is, when others so willingly give so that my needs might be met.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

What are you doing to offer people refuge today? What have others done for you?

I AM NOT A VICTIM

Dear God,
I would like to thank you for the reminder that everything, which happens in my life, is for the good, even when I do not realize it now. Others may look at my life and see the trials and tribulations. I look at my life and give thanks for all you have done for me. I have actively chosen to believe that you do not do things to me as some form of punishment, but for me as a tool to help me grow and continue to be of service. Yes, I have had others say hurtful things to me, but you have taught me that their words are about them, not me. Yes, I have had others abuse me, but their pain, which they targeted towards me, is about them, not me. It is only about me if I believe it is about me and as you have taught me through the teachings of don Miguel Ruiz. The words and the language I use have power and I choose to use words that create positive realities and energy. It is through my word that I create and this power to create is a gift you bestowed on me.

SIT THERE!

It seems like most of my life I have been told don’t just sit there, do something. As a result, I have become the just do it girl. I was the just do it girl long before Nike ever coined that slogan. So it was interesting this morning that I received yet another confirmation that I need to reverse the lesson I was taught as a child. As Sylvia Bookstein said, “Don’t just do something. Sit there.” I have been getting this message that I need to be intentional about taking time each day to just sit, do nothing, and spend time with myself.
So this is my new behavior to work on making a part of my life – doing nothing. I am sure Zoe is going to laugh when I tell her I am going to work on doing nothing for at least 10 minutes a day. Doing nothing and just sitting here does not mean I sit and play a computer game or I sit and talk with her. Doing nothing and sitting here means I spend that time with myself, having those conversations with myself and the Ultimate that I somehow think I can avoid, when I know that I really cannot avoid myself or the Ultimate.
