BREAKING THE SPELL

ou have had the power
sll the time, Belinda said to Dorothy
in the Wizard of Oz,
How many times in our lives
have we waited for someone
to tell us what we already know?
Why are we still waiting for someone
to ride into our lives and
break the curse
with some magic words.
What if we remembered
we were like Dorothy and
knew that we had the power
We have the words.
They may not always be the same,
but we have them.
We have
I do not know.
Grateful for the journey.
The best is yet to come.
I can make it through.
We all have magical words
that seem to break the spells of life.
What are yours?

QUESTIONS

Questions
I keep asking them
Because I want to know the truth
I want more than a superficial answer
I want a deep understanding.
Questions
They are like a quest
One leads to another
Which leads to another
And they lead me to a deeper understanding
They help to have a deeper understanding of the truth
Questions
I ask them because I can
I ask them because I have the right to
I ask them because I want to know
I ask them because they bring me
To a truth
Which can only be answered
Through questions

HOW GOD FEELS

The shame, the silence, the pain
God has felt this too
I was shamed for my enthusiasm
I was silenced and not given space
I have been told I was too kind
I was not given room to explain
God has felt this too.
I have been told I was not welcome
I was told I was too enthusiastic
I have been told I do not fit in
I have been told I am not relevant
God has felt this too
I have felt the pain, experienced the humiliation, felt the denial
God has felt this too.
I have felt the love, I have felt the joy, I have felt the companionship
God has felt this too.
I have been validated for my feelings
I have felt appreciated by others
I have known what it is like to be told thank you
I have felt the warmth of someone’s hand
God has felt this too
What I appreciate about my life
Is that everything I have felt
God has felt this too.

SPEAKING WITH INTEGRITY

Dear God,
I am grateful for this month of reflecting on my own worth. In doing so, I have been reminded of how important it is to me to speak with integrity. It reminds me of a conversation I had with a colleague recently about knowing when to allow myself to speak and when I need to breathe love into my being and remember the Sufi teaching about the questions I must answer before speaking. Is what I want to say truthful? Is it necessary? Is it kind? It parallels the teachings of Toltec Wisdom and don Miguel Ruiz about being impeccable with my word. When I speak with integrity, I am only saying what I mean and when I combine it with the Sufi teaching; I know that how I say what I mean also comes from an intent of love.

FIESTA MIX LESSONS

This evening, one of the women who came for Love and Inspiration, brought a bag of Fiesta Mix she had picked up at the store. Fiesta Mix, for those who have never had it, is a combination of pretzels, Cheetos, and two kinds of tortilla chips. I guess you could say it is a junk food party in your mouth. When she first brought the bag, it seemed like your ordinary bag of mixed snacks.
As our discussion about things happening in our life progressed, I realize that even something as simple as this mixed bowl of snacks had a powerful lesson to share.

My Whale Story

This morning I awoke to a picture and a story a friend has posted on Facebook of a humpback whale. This is what it said:
A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.
This is her story of giving gratitude.
