SONG OF THE WEEK

Sometimes we all need to remember to keep our head up and keep moving -- “I know it’s hard, know it’s hard, to remember sometimes, but you gotta keep your head up, oh.”https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=113&v=CmrOB_q3tjo&feature=emb_logo

BREAKING THE SPELL

ou have had the power
sll the time, Belinda said to Dorothy
in the Wizard of Oz,
How many times in our lives
have we waited for someone
to tell us what we already know?
Why are we still waiting for someone
to ride into our lives and
break the curse
with some magic words.
What if we remembered
we were like Dorothy and
knew that we had the power
We have the words.
They may not always be the same,
but we have them.
We have
I do not know.
Grateful for the journey.
The best is yet to come.
I can make it through.
We all have magical words
that seem to break the spells of life.
What are yours?

LISTENING

I hear you talking
but am I listening.
How often are we in a room with someone
but not present?
How often do I not stop,
and think before I speak?
What if I did?
How much different would
our lives be if were mindful
in our listening and
intentional in our speaking
with others?
Can you hear my feelings
just by the energy
radiating from me?
What if we were present?
What if we listened with our
hearts, minds, and souls?
Just for today,
may we be intentional
about being present
and intentional about
listening and
speaking
and being a channel
for the Divine.

HOLD UP THE WORLD

What if we thought about prayer
as a building block,
as a foundation
which holds up the world?
What if the only reason
the world still exists is
because there are those who pray
and hold up the world with
their faith,
their belief,
and their prayers.
May we hold up the world
each day
by offering up our prayers
for ourselves,
for others,
for our communities
for our countries
and for the world

I DO NOT KNOW

It is okay, I tell my students
to say I do not know.
There is nothing wrong
with saying I do not know.
Saying I do not know
opens us up to learning,
growing,
and receiving knowledge
from the Divine.
There are always things
at work,
at home,
at school
and with our friends
that we do not know.
We all know something
but none of us know everything.
When we say
we do not know,
we allow others to share
what they know with us.
There are also things
we may never know,
because it is not our time
or our season
or our lifetime time to know.
Our ways are not God’s ways
and our understandings are not God’s
So saying
I do not know
simple recognizes
our humanity
and that we are not
the Divine.
Today may we become comfortable
owning we do not know

STONES

I was reminded the other night
how fragile life is
as I remembered how
I almost died 4 years ago,
as a friend’s house burned down
and her cat died in the fire,
and a friend’s grandmother passed away
I remembered my mother and father
and the frustration I have about
my father not having a tombstone.
Then I thought about the stones
that sit on my shelf.
The stones that represent them,
the memories I hold of them
and the feelings which live in my heart.
My parents may be gone,
but like the stones I have
they live on in me and
the memories I have.
They are in the care of
the Ultimate and when
I hold my stones,
I know the Ultimate is
caring for them on heaven
as they were cared for on earth.
